A Rainbow Session with Maddie and Cooper: Gillette, Wyoming
Some sessions hold a special place in your heart, and my time with Maddie and her dog sibling, Cooper, is one of those unforgettable moments. Maddie’s mom reached out to me with a heavy heart, wanting to book a Rainbow Session for Maddie, who had recently been diagnosed with cancer. The purpose of a Rainbow Session is to capture the precious moments with a beloved pet whose time may be limited. It's a bittersweet opportunity to celebrate the bond between pet and owner and create lasting memories.
We met on a gorgeous summer evening at a local park, where the golden light of the setting sun cast a beautiful glow over everything it touched. Maddie, a sweet and gentle soul, seemed to soak up every moment, while Cooper playfully bounced around, bringing an infectious energy to the session. We spent our time capturing individual portraits, photos of the two dogs together, and of course, some special shots of Maddie and Cooper with their loving humans.
As I clicked away, it was impossible not to feel the deep bond that Maddie’s family shared with her. Every glance, every nuzzle, was filled with love. Maddie’s eyes still sparkled with joy as she posed beside her sibling and her humans. It was as if she knew how important these moments were and was determined to make the most of them.
The session was filled with laughter, love, and a few tears as we created a gorgeous gallery of images that captured the essence of Maddie’s spirit and the deep connections she had with those around her. It was a privilege to be able to freeze those moments in time, knowing how much they would come to mean.
Shortly after the session, I received the news that I had been dreading: Maddie had crossed the Rainbow Bridge. My heart goes out to Maddie’s family during this incredibly difficult time. While no words can ease the pain of losing a beloved pet, I hope that the images we created together will serve as a beautiful reminder of the joy, love, and companionship that Maddie brought into their lives.
Rainbow Sessions are more than just a photoshoot; they are a way to honor the special bond we share with our pets. They remind us to cherish every moment, to hold our furry friends a little closer, and to celebrate the love that they bring into our lives, even when it’s time to say goodbye.
